Employers frequently face inspections, citations and other matters involving safety at worksites, often following a workers’ compensation claim filing. Employers must maintain a safe work environment; failure to do so can subject employers to WISHA/OSHA fines ultimately resulting in an increase to workers’ compensation insurance premiums.
Negative action by the Washington Department of Labor and Industries can have wide-reaching consequences for an employer. If L&I officials show up at a work site and discover health hazards or safety concerns, early intervention is critical. We can work quickly to ascertain the potential liability and engage officials in informal discussions, if possible, to resolve issues without formal proceedings. When no resolution is possible, we defend clients who have been issued general, serious and willful citations.
